Solar Oven Partners

Would you like to make potholders that will end up protecting the hands of our Solar Oven Partners recipients? Become part of our Potholder Sewing Brigade!

Potholder Project Underway
Looking for a Few Good Sewers!

Every cook needs a potholder—or two—to protect her hands when removing pans from a very hot oven. That’s why we want to begin including two uniformly made pocket potholders with each oven we distribute to our Solar Oven Partners UMC trainees. It’s also why we’re sending a call-out to become part of our potholder brigade!

To ensure that each oven recipient receives the same size, shape and style of potholder, it’s very important that our volunteer sewers follow the SOP potholder pattern (click on link to the right), but feel free to use your choice of cotton prints or your favorite colors.

It’s also important that we track the number of potholders being made. If an individual, church or organization will commit to sewing potholders, we ask them to contact SOP Director Rick Jost (rjost@brookings.net or 605-692-3391) and state the number of potholders they are willing to sew and the date Rick can expect them to be delivered to SOP. A total of 4,000 potholders are needed, so “contracting” these potholders will help us track progress toward our goal.

If you’d like to be part of this sewing ministry we’d love to have you on the team. Just print out our pattern, get the necessary materials, warm up your sewing machine and give Rick a call or shoot him an e-mail. Sewers, let’s get busy!
